Risk reduction

Polycystic Kidney disease

While there are many ways to slow down the progression of PKD, timely diagnosis and management is the key.
1. Diet
Similar to Glomerulonephritis, eating a diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables and whole grains while also keep salt intake low supports the health of the kidney. A low salt eating diet helps control BP and reduces strain on the kidneys. Avoidance of caffeine is essential and hydration is the key.
2. Taking medication
Taking appropriate medication as prescribed by your doctor will help control your symptoms and prevents progression of PKD including control of high BP and pain. This will slow kidney damage and complications.
3. Healthy weight
Maintaining a healthy weight can reduce stress on the kidneys. This also helps the manage BP levels. This can reduce the risk of complications related to PKD.
4. Regular exercise
Exercising regularly for at least 30 minutes per day helps to improve the overall health and maintain a healthy weigh best for you. This can improve your overall health and can support your heart and kidneys.
5. Limit alcohol and smoking
Limiting alcohol and (trying to quit) smoking usage can help stop extra damage from happening to your kidneys and blood vessels. These habits can slow the progrestion of PKD in your body.
